Show FUTURE OP OF BUS STATE FAIR lios nos anter livestock and clops judging contest t all smith annd an nd ed state honor saturday october october 3 six members of the delta chapter of future farmers of america accompanied by D E jensen vocational agricultural instructor instructor and mr donus dorius of the D IT S spent the day at the state fair where the boys entered the livestock and crops judging contest for voca dional agricultural students each year at the state fair and ogden livestock show these con tests are held in which teams from ach each vocational agricultural school in the state enter livestock crops and poultry judging contests hex rex daly lloyd and frank brasher represented the D 11 S in crops judging among the fifteen schools entering this contest D 11 S placed sixth with rex daly being second high winning man in this contest the boys are required to identify fifty one weed seeds and crop plants and make ings of al at falfa seed potatoes barley and wheat as well as identity identify the var ious market classes the livestock judging team was represented by carl smith carl ash by and willard stephenson livestock teams placed three classes of dairy animals two classes of fat steers and one class of hogs and two classes of sheep saturday evening the salt lake chamber ot of commerce gave a tree free banquet to two hundred and forty boys representing the various high schools of the state at the banquet the boys had the privilege of hearing various leaders of the state talk the president of the utah state fair complimented the boys on the show ing they had made in the judging contests and urged the boys to con dinue their work in the organization state superintendent of schools dr C N jensen spoke to the boys on n the value of vocational education professor maynard of the S A C spoke on livestock feeding and the possibilities of livestock sion in utah boother prominent leaders on the program were george abbott supervisor of club work L R humphries state supervisor of vocational agriculture and jos H manderfield manager of the north salt lake stock yards N D salisbury chairman of the state bankers Assoria As tion awarded gold medals to nineteen boys of the state who have filled all require ments tor for the state farmers degree in the F F A organization carl smith odthe delta chapter is the first state farmer from millard county to receive the state farmer degree the requirements for this degree are rather high being on one of the highest honors in the national organization the boys spent a good deal of time at the state fair and are anxious tor for the opening of the ogden live stock show so that they can get fur ther practice in judging |
