Show SOME FIGURES ON THE BOULDER DAM oliver davis gives us a copy ot of the las vegas times with some inter esting figures about the big boulder dam which that paper says are ac curate enough tor for practical durpos e ea for instance they will probably be six or eight years building it they will have to construct a city for the several thousand work ers and just as good a city as tho it were to be permanent the huge tunnels will be larger by fifty per cent than those under the hudson the dam will be seven hundred ceet feet high but before a pound of ce ment can be poured to make it the water will have to be held turned or diverted so that they can get at bed rock it will be the largest undertaking king of its kind in the world it if all the materials were put into cars separately packed into one train that train would be 1900 miles long we who sit in penny ante have no idea of the size of this gigantic dim it is astounding appalling and un believe able the necessity tor for a dam across the colored red river first arose in 1905 when the imperial valley flood occurred then latterly there has been ten straight years of agitation of it with much wrangling states rights and see sawing and jockey ing tor for position when finished it will be the largest piece of work ot of its kind ever undertaken by man it la Is to be hoped that in this time of at unemployment work in part at least on it can be given in not in full to ease the situation it means a great deal to all our region even this locality mrs mary jane jame howells and her two grandchildren dean and levern howells of pocatello idaho were the guests of mr and mrs george S saturday and sunday they were on their way home from call f tornia mrs howell Is a sister of mrs airs boyack george S boyack was a guest of his son on a trip to zion national park and bryce national monument they went over the zion mt alt carmel scenic road and came home by way of cedar city the trip was taken ln in honor of his birthday word is received that L L ashby has successfully tully fully undergone a major operation for the removal of a bowel obstruction several inches of intes tine were removed he Is improve ing his many wish tor for his complete recovery mrs airs philip J shenon of butte montana visited in delta last week with her sister mrs H W brown ing abraham workman and his son john of salt lake city spent a few days in delia delta this week |
