Show mm TO HAVE TO SYSTEM P W A PROJECT APPROVED word was received the first ot of the week that a P W A project for or improvement of fillmore cites water system has been approved application tor for the project was made last year just before the deadline date on P W A projects was reached but had never been acted upon until now due to a lack ot of funds now a new appropriation has been made and fillmore city Is in line for or the first of this money the application as made last summer called tor for another storage tank the re lining of 0 the rock masonry one which leaks badly the replacing of 0 the old cement line from water cress spring to t the e storage houses with cast iron pipe and possibly a cast iron pipe line up p to coplea copies spring under the P W A setup set up the city will have to pay fifty five per cent of 0 the total cost of the project the government lending that amount it if necessary and making an ail outright gift k of the forty five per cent it if the fifty five per cent Is borrowed from the government it must be repaid by funds raised over a period of 0 years by increasing tile the tap tax or service charges under the application the city reserved the right to accept or reject all or any part ot of the program which calls for or a maximum total ex pd p iture of the new P W appropriation Is not very large and state officials notified the mayor that preference will be given projects that can be started at once and those where the sponsored spon sorer can call raise their portion of the money independent of government help A meeting ot of fillmore city council was called monday evening to give the project consideration and begin action from a general discussion tile the following conclusions were drawn fillmore fellmore city must have a dependable water system and tile the old cement line from the spring down to the head houses bouses is a continual hazard as well as requiring constant attention and repairs it Is apparent that this line must be replaced within the near future the old rock masonry head house or storage tank leaks so badly that when tilled filled and both the inlet and outlet shut oil off it will drop 4 teet feet in 24 hours this waste of water together with the leaks in the cement line it if saved would greatly increase our water supply even with the leaks which we naw now have there is much of the time that there la is a large overflow so that more storage space would be an economical ono mical way of 0 increasing our water supply the new tank which was built a tew few years ago to Is quite generally referred to as one of 0 the best things the city ever did that in the event we cannot afford to pipe down copies spring we should at least make the pipe line from rom water cress down large enough to hold the flow of copies so that the city can include it at some later date it it Is so desired the city has some in its water ater works sinking and working funds which it can use for this project and by borrowing a few thousand dollars more tor for a short term it Is believed it can finance the project with the P W A aid this money was but recently acquired by the local bank redeeming all the water stock which tho the city held field for or bome ome the bonds which it bias vas originally saved to redeem were refunded shortly after the closing of 0 the state bank of millard county tor for an issue thai tha matures serially and therefore do not require a 1 I sinking fund the council decided that if i estimates show that it Is practical they will go through with the project to tho the extent of replacing the cement line re lining tile old tank lank and building one new tank mayor kelly was sent to salt lake to confer with the P W A officials and to employ an ail engineer the extent of the improvement pro nent will finally be determined by the engineers estimate as the council was of the opinion that there Is LL a rather conservative limit to the amount of indebtedness which they will care to incur |
