Show music in the community by J leo jacobs jacobi Is there any one thing that our attention Is drawn to more otten often than music in our churches about one fourth ot of the time is taken up with music in our concerts our programs our gathrel gathre ings ot of every kind Is nearly one halt half music even in our picture shows we hear it continually our homes are ull full of 0 music in one way or another we are coming more and more to recognize the up building benefit of music in our school system this can and should bo be made the building place for good musical settings in the lives of our people and should be of such a nature that it will carry over into our community life for example there should never be a time when community songs are a part of 0 a program that a large part ot of the axi alence au should set belr jaws and refuse to join in the songs or in other words refuse to be part of tile the community with whom they are associating some on oil singing have said gald that any one who is not maimed in natural voice and ear in some physical way can learn to sing I 1 would like to put it this way anyone who can hear bear and talk can learn to sing of 0 course some are better adapted than others and learn more readily but just so in any other learning subject we can not all be artists at every thing in life but we can be educated listeners and also do a few things tor for our own enjoyment everything wo we do should in some way lend to a unity and betterment of the community in which we live are we doing our best to bring this about are we making our lives shine for those about us or rao we living for our own little selves when loraine Lor alne mona atonal vay olat olaf benner omer norman victor and melva were taken to salt lako lake city to mix in contest with the high schools from all over the state and did their best with their limited training were our communities benefited thereby they should be again when our little al 1 I A orchestra went down to meet the best est teams in several states round about and came out among the survivals of the figest do we realize the long hours these young people have lave spent in preparation tor for this tine fine job does doea this lend anything to 0 our community life I 1 think it does these ino fine young people were first led by mrs airs clyde brunson who by the he way has done a tine fine piece of work in n our community it was started as a family orchestra and later a few other members added and it became the millard stake at 1 I A contest orchestra its members were olive brunson melva smith joe carling max brunson elsworth brunson Brun sou benner carling Carll ng and norman jacobs most of these people have received their training here within two and three years what they have done others can do it if there Is any one thing that would make our community life worth living perhaps more than another it would be for every one to unde strand and thereby appreciate good up building music drive your cares carea away with a song song and smiles battles are contagious cont ageous but please dont put up the quarantine flag ot of the grouch grauch |
