Show 1 library and city office pilfered the money till ot of tile the city library and treasurers Treasur ers office was pilfered last tuesday night by thieves who evidently entrena a window at the west of tile the building money in the amount of eight or nine dollars was waa taken the sum belonging to the LL library fund while twenty five dollars of city money was either refused or overlooked by the robbers tile the indications were that the act was tile the work ot of petty thieves or young youngsters stets and it recalls to mind the seemingly numerous occasions in fillmore when similar acts have taken place we do not know whether or not our officers can apprehend these law violators the conditions may make their apprehension impossible but the writer ventures this comment that should these thieves be caught they should be punished whether they be children of high or low parentage the writer believes that the tact fact that in past instances when the perpetrators ot of such acts were apprehended they were allowed to go almost unpunished is responsible for or the frequent occur anco ance of such acts tile the writer believes that every law enforcement officer should consider it ills his duty to seek to discover a thiet thief who would break and enter a public bit building ild ing to steal money and bring him to justice just as diligently as any other law violator la Is prosecuted we are moved to this criticism because we found that 24 hours after this crime had it c committed certain law en force n I 1 nt e f officers did not even know of the e f B we can see no lie good reason w why ay iy both city and county law enforcement officers should not lend their effort to apprehend such criminals can it be true that our officers are blind to what real law violations are and that they choose to wink at such acts as burglary bind and sit placidly by while our youth becomes instilled with the idea that they will not be punished tor for such acts in the above statements we are not criticising criticizing critic ising any one person but we feel that there should be some good reason given tor for officers who are arc paid public money tor for keeping tile the peace for not giving attention to such acts it ma may be that the officers who knew of the cringe crime had good reason tor for not reporting it to the other off officers I 1 of the community it if such was the case they should be charged with etli the i ot of apprehending the culprits as they have imposed that responsibility upon themselves wholly by not soliciting the aid of all law enforcement officers at any rate the money was stolen and the guilty person has not been punished or apprehended and the same thing will occur again in a more serious degree right in the midst 0 athis little peaceful law abiding community and our officers will continue all the more seriously about their business ot of keeping the peace |
