Show RANGE management PLAN FOR NATIONAL FOREST DISTRICT NO 1 district no 1 of the Fish fishlike fishlake lake national forest consists of 0 acres of land this district Is subdivided into 6 grazing units each unit in connection with the ranger Is supervised by a stock mens association on this district there are head to cattle and 1600 head ot of sheep which are covered by permits making a ot of 2 SO users in order to furnish range tor for this number ot of stock and tor for the range to improve and furnish a perpetual supply ol of forage and not injure timber reproduction watershed cover wild life or recreation it Is necessary to follow a well defined plan in order to determine termine twe the number ber ot of stock that can call be placed on the range and the dates dales they can enter it la Is necessary to make a survey of 0 the range A reconnaissance of the range was made by grazing experts and after the data was compiled they could tell us how many surface and forage acres it takes to graze a cow or sheep during the summer months by making a study of the plant growth they determined when the plants should be grazed by getting this informs information we could readily figure out the number of stock tor for each unit also when the stock should be placed on the range to get this information to tile the stockmen stoc kmen a graphic map of the unit is made and it la Is subdivided into units the number of stock and the dates they should enter Is designated salt grounds are placed on the map showing how much salt should be placed on each unit range im existing and needed are also indicated on oil the map by proper symbols then a plan for each unit to la written up tile the plan gives the number of stock to bo be distributed to ach unit th number of each salt ground name and gimbor of pounds of salt is stated instructions as to how to handle the stock on the range and the above standards are given in this plan A person who Is acquainted with the range at all can look at the map mail and read his bis plan and can easily follow it the plan and map Is presented to the stockmen stoc kmen at their annual meeting and it approved a copy la ls given to the secretary of each association when the time cornea comes for the stock to enter tile the forest this map and plan la Is given to the herder or herders gerders and be places the stock on an the range according to the plan good range management Is follow ed cd up until the stock leave tile tho tor for est eat by following a well defined plan the forest Is showing considerable improvement |
