Show SUPT B K farnsworth MAKES ANNUAL REPORT we are printing herewith a short summary of 0 an excellent and comprehensive report made the millard county school board by supt bupt B K farnsworth covering the activities and achievements ot of the district during the year ot of in taking up present school population and enrollment the Super ln states that a total enrollment of at pupils are now on tile the census rolls between the ages ot of 6 and 18 percent ol of which are abeln lu average dally daily attendance tor for the full nine months percent are ac caully enrolled which makes a very creditable showing in that respect ot of the number above referred to 2741 are enrolled in the elementary schools schoola while are enrolled in the high schools in connection with the reference to present school population sup bupt supt it farnsworth makes the observation that it costs approximately a year to train the child while ho he Is in the elementary school while it costs approximately to train him one year in the high school and adds that in the interest ot at economy effort should be made to train him well while training Is cheapest one important phase of the report showed the increase in high school graduates during the past three years in 1925 the three high schools of the county graduated only 59 students while in the year 1928 were graduated in the county ahli represents an increase of 90 per cent in the number of graduates in three years school summarized by the editor millard county lias has 3 se senior anfor high schools and 20 elementary schools recommendation by supt bupt that junior high schools be reestablish establish re ed at scipio and leamington leavington Lea there are 98 teachers in the district making the average number of pupils per teacher IS 19 principals in the al district strict in there fire are 19 principals in the district including those ot of two teacher schools 15 of which were holdovers of 0 one or more years of 0 the teachers 27 were brought in new to this district 20 ot at whom were beginners ot of the beginners 10 came train the TJ LT ot of U 5 from the U A C 4 from rom the B Y V U and one from another salt lake school careful supervision of teachers and contant constant testing for or results and filing of records are stressed as essential to proper functioning of tho the system in the report activities student body parent teacher associations and extension work have made the past year able to show creditable effort in all lines of activities ies athletics debating and public speaking have gained state recognition according to the report the present policy of transportation Is deemed a success the per pupil mileage e cost 1 Is estimated at 11 cent tor for elementary emen tary and 19 cent for high school pupils finance the county school finances show a thrifty economical practice such as one might find in a progressive thrifty business the law makes the superintendent the budgeting officer this year you have made a determined effort and have lived within the budget in addition to this you have accumulated an asset of some in accounts receivable recel vable from rom the sale of 0 school busses you have definitely gone on oil record that bills made without requisitions t ons on the clerk of the board and formally approved by the board shall become the private account ot of I 1 the io person so creating the account the financial records of the school district are splendidly cared for I 1 take pleasure in commenting favorably on the work of miss alias carling as clerk of the schools she has hag at all times been willing and efficient in her duties she has established a reputation in the state and particularly with the state office tor for her punctuality and accuracy in making reports and in fit handling correspondence pon dence I 1 approximately was spent ident during 1925 26 in fit buildings and repairs some where between and of this amount was raised by a special 2 year 3 mill levy the balance of some plus has had to come from maintenance point of crippling them you have and rather than cut schools to tile the found it necessary to borrow we have a loan of which will mature june wo we have on oil hand about and a credit on busses ot at which indicates we shall need to absorb some next year I 1 the slightest doubt but that this can easily be done considering the above facts may I 1 not repeat this has been an all outstanding year in conclusion I 1 express to you individually and as a board my sincere appreciation for or your generous support your wholesome criticism and the constructive council and advice you have accorded me during the year now drawing to a close respectfully B K farnsworth superintendent |
