Show RED CROSS NEWS san francisco sept 21 3 W richardson assistant national director ot of red cross disaster relief and one ot of the most experienced disaster workers in the west has been sent by the pacific branch headquarters of 0 the american red cross to carbon county to investigate the extent of 0 the damage done there by recent floods and to ascertain the amount of 0 re across assistance which will bo be needed nee led richardsons Richard sons visit to carbon county Is at the request ot of governor dern it if it Is found that the persons suffering losses in the floods cannot recuperate cu without outside assistance the red cross in accordance with its usual custom will make the necessary appropriations tor for relief from its national treasury supplementing whatever may be raised by public appeal the necessity tor for a public appeal will be one of the things to be decided by governor dern after mr richardson has made his survey of the situation emergency assistance to the flood victims is being extended by the carbon county chapter of the red cross at price under the direction of mrs airs grant crawford Craw tord chairman and other officers when approximately this same district was flooded last july the red cross sent a representative from the branch office to investigate the needs and otter offer assistance at that time however it wab found that the families affected were able to recover without assistance the remainder being taken care ot of by the carbon county chapter the present situation seems to be considerably more serious from reports richardson spent almost five months continuous service in the flood area and prior to that served tor for four our months in the relief operations following the florda ida hurricane ile he has had more disaster itaster experience than any red cross ross worker la in the pacific states |
