Show THE MILLARD COUNTY FAIR the first millard county fair was brought to a successful close last friday and great credit is is due the county fair com especially judge G 0 viele chairman for his untiring efforts to make the fair it a success he worked for overa over a month every day and served without any compensation whatever the fair opened wed with quite a number cumbe r of horses cattle poultry agricultural products art and needlework needle woric its and the stock judge mr ben ion i on from the agricultural college passed on tho ach stock and all the prizes pries for horses and hereford cattle were won oy holden in the ho holstein stein milk cows vern bartholomew of fillmore won first prize both for bulls and cows dan stevens being a close second james anderson won first prize for his jersey bull and frank hanson first for jersey je arsey tow wm speaks aksman man second geo 0 velle 1st ast and 2nd and rambouillet bouillet fc and earl viele ast 1st hogs the horse borse races were good D and closely contested although most lost of them thein were local entries the only accident of the fair happened on oil the last day when frank laver who was riding a race was thrown off the horse against the fence and had an arm broken just above the wrist 35 85 or 40 dollars were collected T in about 21 2 minutes and given to to him to io help def defray r ay his doctor bill the pulling match was won by id ed tumble trimble the boxing contest between lid ed davis and dallas huntsman was declared a draw as waa also the match between will davis and ben bennett the main boxing event between tw een tomy fitzgerald and was a short and decisive battle surfaces forced the fighting for the first two rounds but the superior fighting qualities q of the bantom champion came to the front in abr third round and went ou out t with two straight 0 lefts to k the jaw some dissatisfaction has been expressed at the shortness of the bout some going so far as to say it was nou noc a knock out people who talk that way ev evidently P never saw a knockout before and they are not lot competent to judge on the whole it was a vei very y pretty exhibition hibi tion and the bantom champion upheld his reputation for clever clean boxing let lei us all try to raise some tiling thing for the fair next year farmers and stock raisers certainly aln ay ought to deyp encouraged 0 ed with the showing that was made mr air benion said it was the best opening lie he has seen it in the state so let us all try for it a blue ribbon next year and malce make th the millard county fair for 1911 one that will compare with any of them |
