Show Executive Begins Liquor War Harrisburg, Pa., The mailed fist of Governor Gifford Pinchot fell upon up-on bootleggers' of Pennsylvania Saturday Sat-urday in a ruthless drive against illegal il-legal liquor traffic. It was the biggest big-gest effort against illegal sale of liquor li-quor undertaken by any state since the eighteenth amendment went into in-to effect. Three hundred troopers of the state' sfamous semimilitary police galloped in groups over flie highways chnllenginig trucks, raiding- suspected suspect-ed bootleggers' haunts, confiscating every form of alcoholic beverage, arresting ar-resting scores of persons and drawing draw-ing around every section of the state (in armed dragnet V "make Pennsylvania Penn-sylvania dry." Local police cooperated cooperat-ed as still after still was raided, trucks searched and seized. The crusade, cru-sade, in line with Pinchot's pledge actually to enforce prohibition in this state will not abate in the least until that objective is attained, it was declared. Reports here said that a flying squadron of federal dry agents will be sent to assist in the cleaning up. |
