Show ! ! WINNERS OF THE WEST j In the fall of 1848, following the ! discovery of gold on Sutter's Creek, j California, Captain John C. Fermont ! U. S. A. starts west, blazing a direct j wagon route to the Pacific Coast. Fol lowing the Boone's Lick Trail, he passes through Boonville, Missouri. Arthur Standish (Art Acord) is the hardiest youth and the most in-' in-' trepid hunter and trapper around Boonville. . In that itown also lives j Squire Blair, his son Louis; Dr. Ed-: Ed-: wards and his daughter, Betty. Stand : ish and Louis Blair are rivals for Betty's hand. A wagon train of Boon ville inhabitants leave for the west. Standish, through the lies of Squire Blair and Louis, is forced to stay behind, branded a coward. Louis joins the train, taking with him a copy of a map belonging U Standish, Stand-ish, which shows the location of a gold mine, discovered by .Ait's father. fath-er. The Boonville wagons iro attacked attack-ed by Indians. Siandish learning that the Sioux are on the warpath, rides after the train and rescues Betty from the Indians. The Boon-villeites Boon-villeites are rescued by Captain Fremont's Fre-mont's men. Art joins the wagon tra'n. vhicli barely escapes annihilation, l-v a prairie fire. Art is captured b the Indians, and is about to be burned at the stake when rescued by Captain Cap-tain Fremont. Betty is kidnapped by the mysterious Buffalo Man. In endeavoring to save her. Art hangs from the edge of a cliff, with a griz-zley griz-zley clawing at his fingers. He gets oue of 'this tight place and rescues Betty. His party becomes lost in the painted Desert of -New Mexico. In Arizona the train is attacked by Apaches, who are repulsed after a hot battle. Finally th ewagon train reaches SuCter's Creek. Art finds his father's gold mine and he and Betty are free to wed.
