Show ROAD SIGNS Nearly 200 signs have been placed on the road from Fillmore to Beaver Bea-ver and Cedar City to Beaver in the co-operative signing program of the Auto Club of Utah and the Auto Club of Southern California. These signs give complete direction direc-tion to tourists visiting in this section sec-tion and will doubtless prove of considerable con-siderable value to residents of this county as the tourist travel into Utah's scenic south continues to increase. in-crease. The good' roads for which Beaver county has long been noted, coupled with the excellent signs which have been placed, will attract many tourists to this section. All signs placed on roads nearby are of the standard steel construction construc-tion with a heavy enameled surface, and are a decided1 credit to the spirit of cooperation between the Utah and California organizations. They furnish furn-ish concrete proof of the sincerity of the California club in its intention of developing tourist travel into and through Utah. The work is of the best and their permanency is assured as long as the people respect their value and refrain from shooting or throwing rocks at them. The California club will make additions ad-ditions to the signs as the need for such additions arise and will make periodic trips of Inspection for repairs. re-pairs. In the erection of these signs Utah is assured of the most complete system sys-tem of highway markers it has ever known. Their value as an advertising medium is accepted in touring circles cir-cles which hesitate to route tourists through country which is strange to them unless it ia completely signed. In this state 1908 sign have been put up on a total number of 1070 steel posts. In addition the California club has been put to the expense of erecting several hundred signs through Arizona, Ari-zona, Nevada and Colorado to tie up roads in those states with the roads here. In Nevada for instance, 132 signs have been put up on the Zion Park highway Arrowhead trail to connect that road from Las Vegas to St. George. In Arizona the logging has included the entire Arizona strip to the Grand canyon and connects with Utah roads, both on the Kanab-Fredonia Kanab-Fredonia and Hurricane-Short Creek sections. In Colorado for the first time complete com-plete system of signs has been put up from Cortez and Grand Junction to tap the tourist travel which annually an-nually visits the Mesa Verde Park and other sections in the heart of Colorado. With these additions 2341 signs been placed on highways within or tributary to this state with a total number of 1310 steel posts. No estimate esti-mate has been made of the cost of these signs though it is safe to as-' sume that the California club spent several thousand dollars at a very minimum in its signing venture. The completed system stands as a tribute to the work carried on through the Auto Club of Utah. |
