Show JAIL BIRDS ESCAPE BUT ARE CAUGHT BY THE OFFICERS The three prisoners at Hotel Put-fer Put-fer tried taoinhrdlu awawwaw wayye fer, tired of their quarters and by sawing the bars from their jail win-' win-' clow, left last Thursday morning at 3 o'clock for parts unknown. Saturday noon after spending a couple of nights in the snow cf thi. high mountains east of Beaver, they came down to the Telluride Power company's station and bought somu food. After they had left the plant J one of the employes who had not been present when the men got the food heard that three men had beeu i at the boarding house. Suspecting! that they might be the escaped pns ! oners, he telephoned to Beaver and officers were sent out to try and lo cate them. About midnight, Deputy Sheriff Puffer and Bart Baldwin, while stationed sta-tioned near the mouth of Baker's canyon, heard someone approaching down the road . and when within u few feet, Mr. Puffer ordered ..hands-up" ..hands-up" and while Baldwin kept them covered with his gun, Puffer put tnu irons on the two larger of the prisoners pris-oners and started: them toward Beaver. Bea-ver. Puffer and Baldwin following, guns ready for instant use. They arrived at the jail in Beave. about 2 a. m. where the prisoners were again locked behind the bars awaiting the pleasure of the district court which convenes June 10th These three prisoners were arrested arrest-ed sometime ago in Milford' as confidence- men, being charged with working work-ing the old strap game on a passenger passen-ger on the U. P. train between Black Rock and Milford. |
