Show V.1TKH SUITLY Tile (jihstion is heing asked and rightly too. what is to be done with the SCO, 000 if it is voted tomorrow, ; for the improvement of our water supply. ,The amount is too much to spent in ' repairing the present system sys-tem and it is not enough to obtain a gravity-fti-pply and pipe it to town. T-hese are questions and remarks frequently fre-quently heard on the streets and it would appear that every man has his own ideas and his own answer. I So our answer and our' idea is as good as any ones, and we are going to try and put it over. First, it is conceeded by all that the present supply is inadequate and i the present pine line is in bad shape. Second, it is admitted that a grav- : ity system would be the ideal sys- j tern. . If the bonds are voted, the town board might clean out the present I wells, increase the lifting capacity of the pumping plant by the purchase j of modern equipment, renew ' the pipe lines and perhaps put down an- ! other well. j The average taxpayer says, that is all well and good, and should be done and I am in favor of doing it, but : $60,000 is too much money for that and I am afraid the balance would be wasted. Another element in the town says "I would vote for the bonds if the board would procure a gravity water wat-er system from the East hills, but $60,000 ain't enough. There is a great deal of truth and merit in both these ideas. To our mind, a combination of both should be wrorked out. . First the springs in the hills east of town should be secured for the town. There will never be a when they can be bought as cheap as at the present and some time Mil-ford Mil-ford will have to have them. Now is the time to get title to them. It won't cost much to- hold them until they are-needed. Tie balance of the money, or as much as might be needed could ' bn used in renewing extending ami enlarging the present pipe linos. This would have to be done in any event. In a few years when the town is lat'Krr anrl more wealthy, 'then mon-ev mon-ev could bo procured . to connect up the springs -with the pipe lines and Milford world have a good gravity system wi;-h : supply sufficient for a town of 12,000 people.
