The new Union Pacific depot, the completion of which was celebrated last Monday, is the handsomest depot de-pot in the state and outside of Ogden Og-den and Salt Lake, it is .'the most expensive and best. The building proper is 222 feet long and 72 feet wide, with en annex an-nex for a boiler room, bakery and laundry 40x60. The walls of the building are built entirely of hollow hol-low tile, then covered with stucco and painted a rich cream trimmed with green. The roof is covered with Spanish mission tile in varlgatea colors. The interior of the building Is arranged ar-ranged in the most convenient manner. man-ner. The entire north end of the building build-ing is occupied by the express office and baggage room. South of this is the waiting room, ticket office and lavatories. Then comes a stairway, which leads to the offices upstair. South of the stairway Is the big lunch room, then the office, news stand and stairway. Back of the stair way is the kitchen anl refrigerators. Leading back from the kitchen Is a covered passageway which connects with the bakery. The entire south end of the building build-ing is occupied by the dining room, one of the most beautiful dining rooms in the state. A large colonade extends across, each end of the building, build-ing, and nearly all the way across the front. The brick platform between be-tween the train tracks and the build ing, is very extensive and required 125,000 brick to construct. A row of beautiful ornimental light posts decorate each end of the platform, and lend a touch of beauty to the entire building. The contract for ithe building was let to H. W. Baum Co. and work was started the first week in June and the building was accepted by the engineers en-gineers for the railroad on November Novem-ber 1. The cost of the building was about $200,000, which with cost of platform, lighting and heating s tems, hotel furnishings and electrical electric-al equipment brings the total investment invest-ment up to approximately $250,000. : |
