Show STORIXQ CELERY There Is a prevailing idea that celery is a hard plant to keep, but this idea is wrong. Of all the vegetables vege-tables produced, celery is perhaps the most easily kept. There are two ways in which celery cel-ery may be kept for winter use: First, and easiest, is to get a long box and place in the bottom about 3 inches of moist earth, then stand the celery plants up-right and close together to-gether in the box. Box must be in a cool, dark place, such as a cellar, etc. The second method is to dig a trench close to the house, about 12 to 18 inches wide and 18 incres deep and long enough to accommodate the number of bundles you have; then stand celery upright in- trench placing bunches close together. After Af-ter trench Is full, cover over with a thick layer of straw and then earth. Keep in mind to cover the roots with damp earth in both cases. By using either one of the above methods of storing celery you can keep it in any quantity you wish until un-til April, taking it out as you wish to use it. In this way you can have on your table throughout the entire winter one of the finest delecacies of the truck garden industry. Robert Pixton i |
