Show CANDIDATES' RANKS j GAIN NEW MEMBER i i Another name yesterday was added ad-ded to the list of candidates for j Mayor at the November election with 1 the announcement of the candidacy j of Irwin Hayden, former secretary i of the Chamber of Commerce. Hay- j den, Dr. Horace Porter, Harry Davis Fox and Frank L. Grayson have tossed toss-ed their hats into the ring. Hayden's announcement follows: "To the People of Riverside; . "Unsolicited and unadvised by any citizens, I hereby announce myself as a candidate for the office of May-of May-of Riverside, (Cat.) at the election November next. "My only experience in public affairs af-fairs was had as secretary of the i Riverside Chamber of Commerce, an j office which I failed to fill to the j satisfaction of all concerned. "My candidacy will depend on whether or not there be any citizens who will circulate my petitions, and sign them. j "No newspaper, individual or or-: ganization known to me at this writing, will support me, except that : a few personal friends may lend me their support through courtesy. "For the benefit of my creditors, including the Riverside Community ; Hospital, the Y. M. C. A. and the Community Chest, who may become j unduly alarmed on reading this announcement, an-nouncement, I promise to use no personal funds in my campaign, other than necessary filing fees, unless my debts shall have been previously-liquidated. previously-liquidated. "In order to conserve the peace and quiet of the community I hereby here-by undertake to make no political speeches or to conduct any campaign other than a possible door-to-door canvass. (Any person or group of persons may campaign for or against me, ad lib, provided it is understood ' that I must not be held responsible j for any words or deeds in such case uttered or enacted.) ! "My sole pledge, if nominated and elected is and shall be: that I will give to the duties of the office of Mayor all of the attention, intelligence intelli-gence and industry that a man of ordinary ability, understanding and. decency can be expected to give; and that if by any chance elected to this office no man or group of men (or women either) shall expect me to hire or fire or do anything whatsoever, what-soever, as Mayor, which does not seem to me to be for the best interest inter-est of the City of Riverside, including includ-ing Arlington. "(At this point let me say that if anyone doubts my sincerity in offering of-fering myself as a candidate for this high office, election to which appears ap-pears to me to be a real opportunity for public service, just let that man or women volunteer to circulate a j petition for me!). "Finally, I positively and absolutely abso-lutely reserve the nght, at any stage of the campaign, to withdraw my name from the list, in case a man or woman more worthy of the office -becomes a candidate.
