Show PEOPLE ADVISED TO STAY' IN THE STATE OF UTAH "Stay in Utah and Idaho, where there are opportunities, and don't move to southern California," was the idea impressed by a letter receiv ed at the office of President Heber J. Grant of the Mormon church from George W. McCune, president of the newly organized Los Angeles stake. The first presidency of the church approved the sentiments expressed in the letter and, prompted by its contents, Is urging church members residing in Utah and Idaho not to rush pell-mell to sunny California, for there is no path of roses there for them to tread. President McCune, a former resident resi-dent of Ogden, says1 that while Indais-trial Indais-trial conditions in that section of the country are very satisfactory at present, pres-ent, nobody knows when there will be a reaction. He also indicates that, were it not for the condition of hih health, he would much prefer spending spend-ing the rest of his days In the valleys of the mountains. His letter says in part. "You are now thoroughly familiar with the fact that there are numerous numer-ous people coming from Utah and Idaho to this section of the country, but there is one phase of this migration migra-tion that you may not be familiar with. Already I am besieged on all sides for help by the people, some of whom have left comfortable homes and bright prospects in the inter-mountain inter-mountain country to come down here with nothing in view whereby they can earn a livelihood and provide for themselves and their families. It seems to me that something should be said by way of warning to our people, that they might stop and consider con-sider well the seriousness of moving from Utah and Idaho to a landi where there will be an entire change in climate cli-mate and living conditions. In a statement to church members signed by the first presidency of the church the letter of President McCune Mc-Cune is commended and recommended recommend-ed for the thoughtful consideration of all who are contemplating a move to California. The church presidency urges fnmilis not to break up their homes in the Intermountaln country and move to southern California, but to remain here and help develop the resources of this section. |
