Show VETERANS' GROUP IS INSTITUTED AS A POST OF V. OF F. W. EX-SERVICE MEN MEET AND REVIVE MEMORIES OF WARS Beaver county world war veterans, to the number of twenty or more, met at the Odd Fellow hall last Saturday night, and were instituted as a post of Veterans of Foreign Wars. As the name of the organization implies, only those veterans with overseas service were eligible for membership. The Milford post is now the fourth one to be chartered in the state of Utah. Quite a variety of service during the war times was represented by the group of men present. OX course, veterans of Uncle Sam's campaigns in France, during the late misunderstanding misunder-standing with Germany, were in thf majority, but there were also in attendance, at-tendance, men who had faced enemy fire in Mexico, the Phillipines, Cuba, and China. The men were initiated by a group of men from Lt. Clarence E. Allen Post, Number 409 of Salt Lake City. Guy M. Snyder, Past-Commander of that post, assisted by Commander Bradley, and J. B. Campbell, gave the charge to the Milford members. The officers-elect were then assigned to their stations and their duties explained. ex-plained. The meeting then proceeded with G. T. Fitzgerald presiding as commander of the new post. The post here is number 1546. It was decided to name the Milford organization or-ganization after the town Milford, at least for the time being. It may be decided later to adopt another name in respect and honor to some Milford or Beaver county lad who fell in battle. Myron Lewis, Leroy Luken, and Lee Brown were chosen a committee com-mittee to investigate and make recommendations rec-ommendations regarding a permanent perman-ent name for the post. Trustees were chosen as follows: Pitchforth, for term of 18 months; Lewis, for term of 12 months; and Reynolds, for (? months. Mayor O. F. Hubbell was initiated as an honorary member. Mayor. Hubbell Hub-bell served in the United States army during the Spanish-American War, but although one of the earliest volunteers, vol-unteers, was kept in camp in this country. Each post is allowed one honorary member for each" twenty regular members. Other honorary members may be selected by the post later. The list of men who helped to form the local post at its first few meetings, meet-ings, was published in another issue of this paper. The following new names were added to the post roster as charter members: James McSor-ley. McSor-ley. Lee Brown, Otto A. Melcher, S. E. Pitchforth, Carl E. Roberts, L. C. Luken. Daniel Davis, Lucien Gillis, i James K. Geousrh, Manuel Guynard, j and C. J. Johnson. At a late hour, a recess was called, and the men ansewered chow call. Coffee, cakes and sandwiches were' served. The post meeting was then adjourned. The next meeting will be held Saturday evening, April 7. |
