| Show New Award System Each spring when it comes time to pass out activity awards the same old complaints are made by students who feel they deserve the same arguments begin about who should and should not have the editor of the Chronicle writes an editorial on the everybody gets hot and bothered about the present system and as a result nothing This is perhaps the prime example of the futility of a student government a democratic system which nobody takes advantage Students value their their power to vote just try to take them away if you don't believe it and yet none of them a period of many years have bothered to take necessary steps to change the school constitution and right the Certainly opinion is almost unanimous that the award system should be How can anyone justify a system which gives awards to practically every student in the entire music department and yet does not recognize the Prom which c i i System Overlooks spends countless hora of Deserving Students work while planning the some of the music department members deserve awards some of them work But do members of the women's glee the men's glee and all of whom receive academic credit for their deserve When it comes to the band and the special the recognition is deserved but being part of a chorus as in class is no great contribution to student The real injustice in the distribution of awards the music is apparent when one considers that it is possible for a single student to get eight awards for he same activity and most of them do get three or That is to a student in the girls' glee is usually in the in the double quartet and maybe in several other music One award should suffice but such is not the case she gets an award for each One boy at the university during his four years in school received five awards each year through the music department a boy who was not particularly outstanding and did not contribute greatly to student And there's the Awards should be to work ci i 1 something something to not a piece For Real Service of metal given out to every Dick and Harry in the Awards should be given for real for work on student on in in dramatics and The Chronicle is beginning a and asking student to change the university to revise the award We hope to change the by-laws so that members of the Junior Prom the matinee dance committee and numerous other worthwhile activities receive so that those who deserve awards will receive It won't be a particularly easy but it can be done and it will A written petition will be submitted to student officers providing they will then be sent to the executive council where unanimous approval must be Once the petition gets that it must be published in the Chronicle for two weeks and must appear on every bulletin board for two Then it's up to the faculty vote and student |
