Show Spirit Behind School Band Makes Champion Elkhart, Ind. It's the spirit of a towu, and not the number of its Inhabitants In-habitants that determines the size and quality of Its high school band, according ac-cording to James F. Boyer, widely known musician and supervisor of the Conn Music Center here. As proof of his contention, Mr. Boyer cites the case of Jollet, Illinois, home of America's 1026 champion high school band. Census figures give depopulation de-population of Jollet as under 50,000, yet public-spirited fathers and musically musical-ly ambitious sons have here made possible pos-sible a 6o-plece prize-winning band. In their natty full-dress uniforms, the hoys made a sensation as they marched down the streets of Fostorla, Ohio, on their first lap toward national band honors. |
