Show . NOTICE C: 'UNTY FARMERS The farmers of the county are no doubt aware of the serious condition condi-tion of our potato industry. Plant diseases have become so numerous ud some of them attack the potato in such a way that it is impossible to reach them by m"ins of chemical reatments. Tf conditions continue "s they are. the potato, which is un--ler good yields, onr most profitable crop, is threatened with extinction as a profitable crop. It is not practical prac-tical to import our seed each year, for the reason that these diseases are all over th" potato-growlnir areas ar-eas and we are not likely to get any better seed than we hav ourselves. Then the potato- is too l envy to freight frei-ght long distances for seed purposes, making the cost too high. It is only practical for the farmers far-mers to grow their own seed and this will have to be done by individual indi-vidual plant selection in the field, as a nucleous for improving the seed and keeping it free from liseise. The county agricultural agent will conduct field demonstrations on tha selection of potato seed and the storing stor-ing of it, through local farm bureau organizations on the following dates: dat-es: Beaver. September 1 leaving leav-ing school house for field at 10 a. m Manderfield, September 10, leaving leav-ing school houhe for field at 2 p. m. Farmers cannot, spend their time more profitably than at these field demonstrations. Try to be in attendance. |
