The elements entering into the fuel situation this year which force j us to believe that coal is going to be la scarce article during the months to come are as follows: Several railroad companies, including in-cluding the Southern Pacific and the Salt Lake Route, that have been using us-ing oil as fuel, are changing to coal on account of the high price of oil. The Pacific coast states that have always secured their supply of fuel from foreign countries cannot be supplied from this source this season, sea-son, owing to the scarcity of boats and the prevailing high rates for transportation. On account of the war situation, the output of several Eastern coal mines is uemg Lan.cn uvci uj i."-Government. i."-Government. This will mean that the coal fields from which we usually usual-ly draw our supply will have their hands full taking care of the demand farther east. So much for the increased demand. On account of the shortage in labor, la-bor, cars and motive power, it is certain cer-tain that no more coal can be delivered deliv-ered in the months to come than has been delivered in the past. In view of this increased demand, with no increase in the supply, it Is equally as certain that requirements must be anticipated in advance if they are to be filled. It is impossible for dealers to store enough coal to take care ot the wants oi mis section sec-tion during the period when the demand de-mand is naturally heavy. For this reason, those who want to be sure of a supply for next winter should get busy NOW.
