Show UNIVERSITY XEWS BUREAU The University of Utah Reserve Officers Training Corps unit, which represented the state institution at the recent field artillery school encampment en-campment held at Camp Knox Kentucky, Ken-tucky, was not surpassed by any oth er college, according to Major M. G. Randol, in charge of the R. O. T. C. work of the university. In the individual ratungs a Utah student. Maurice Mayer, won second h'-honor h'-honor in the entire camp with a score of 9S.7 per cent. For the six weeks of the camp the men lived under military discipline and were instructed in the various phases of field artillery. Every R. O. T. C. student must attend one such encampment during the four years of the course. Expenses are paid by the government. Tlia nhiont rf iha T? Ci T P is to train men in the colleges that they may serve as officers in the regular elective, carries college credit and leads to a second lieutenant's commission com-mission in the reserve corps. Students Stu-dents are provided with army equipment equip-ment and juniors and seniors are paid. Plans for the next term, which begins September 27. have been re-reived re-reived at the University from Washington. Wash-ington. Among the new features are mounted work and polo. In speaking of the R. O. T. C. Ma jor Randol said: "Results of the encampment en-campment and the past five years work show conclusively that the judgment of the war department in planning such work for the college? was sound. It has been beneficial to the schools, to the students and to the government." |
