Show MINERSVILLE NOTES Members of the school orchestra, chaperoned by Miss Kling, went on a trip to Jar Loose last Sunday, taking their lunch and enjoying an all day picnic. An unusually good program was given by the elementary school last Monday night to raise the Junior Red Cross funds.. In this they were highly successful, as well as in the program, which was very much commended. com-mended. The numbers were as follows: fol-lows: Arbor Day Fairies 5th Grade Flag Drill 2nd Grade Recitation, "Liberty Bell" Margaret Mar-garet Carter A Minuet Letty Eyre and Elva Dot-son Dot-son The Runaway Bear 3rd and 4th Grades Recitation, "An Irish Philosopher" Obra Myers The Wearing of the Green, and an Irish Jig by 6th Grade Girls straightforward talk on the responsibilities respon-sibilities which present conditions have thrust on all communities. He made a great impression on his hearers. hear-ers. After the address the members 1 - The entire program showed careful care-ful preparation, and was heartily applauded ap-plauded by a crowd which packed the meeting house. A dance was held last Friday for those who have been working on the Minersville road work. Reports indicate in-dicate that the dancers had a good time at the affair. The Misses Bracken, Kling and Yeomans were hostesses to the faculty fac-ulty last Saturday night at a St. Patrick's Day party. The Irish idea appeared in games, decorations and refreshments. The games included lively contests of various sorts, ending end-ing in a medley of Irish airs per-' formed with much enthusiasm by a comb band. The band then led the march to another room, where a light supper was served at' a table decorated decor-ated with shamrocks and other green and white decorations. Following Fol-lowing the refreshments an impromptu im-promptu program was presented, featuring the snake charmer, who performed with a paper snake. At the regular meeting of the Home and School Association last week, Mr. Strickland of Beaver was the chief speaker. He gave a joined in a social time and informal discussion of business around a table loaded with popcorn and apples. ap-ples. At this time plans were made to see that the students had help enough to complete the work on the school grounds and put in the lawn. It was also decided to invite the town and school to join in a picnic at some near time. |
