Show HIT BY SLEDGE HE COMES BACKSMILING Manley Berkhimer, employed as machinist's helper at the Salt Lake R. R. shops, was accidentally struck a glancing blow on the head by an eight-pound sledge Tuesday afternoon. after-noon. The young man was holding a bar which the machinist was striking. strik-ing. He stooped slightly turning his head to one side and the iron bar wobbling caused the mechanic to lose perfect control of the sledge. The sledge struck Berkhimer well up on the left side of the head above the forehead. He was carried to Dr. Hunter's office on a stretcher, where Miss Edwards, professional nurse, cut the hair away and cleaned the wound until Dr. Banning arrived. ar-rived. It is thought that the wound will not prove serious, but it was a very narrow escape. The mechanic who wielded the sledge so unfortunately, unfortu-nately, assisted in every way possible possi-ble In caring for the Injured man. The accident seems to have been entirely en-tirely unavoidable so far as he was concerned. |
