Show CANDY IS ESSENTIAL TO EVERY SOLDIER Candy, which was once considered a luxury for women and children, has now come to be recognized as a food of highest value. The fuel value of candy to the human system, has been proven beyond a doubt by the soldiers sol-diers in France and in our own camps. Men who work hard are coming to be the nation's largest candy eaters. This is because candy, consisting of sugar, chocolate, milk, fruits ano nuts, offers a delicious, appetizing source for supplying of the system with carbohydrates body energy. Scientists are commencing to realize real-ize that the reason children crave candy is because the growing body needs constant fuel, and this fuel Is derived mainly from sugar. Sugar Is enjoyed by children when combined with nuts, fruit, chocolate and other food products. The idea is not to deprive children of a normal supply of candy, but to see that they get good candy, ma-de properly under sanitary conditions. One of the great American institutions institu-tions which has become firmly established estab-lished during the great war is candy. Candy, which at the beginning of the war was put down by many people as a non-essential luxury, is now recognized recog-nized as a food product of tremendous tremend-ous value. As a source of carbohydrates carbohyd-rates for the system, the soldiers In France have put their definite O. K. on candy, and the various quartermaster quarter-master departments are behind it. The food value of candy is so great that the average man and woman knowing what a big factor candy in this country, would guess that at least 25 to 50 per cent of the sugar used in this country goes into candy. The nation was surprised to learn from certified statistics that only 8 per cent of the national consumption went into candy even in normal times. Tt is now about 4 per cent. |
