Show EKFECTIV EIN ALL PARTS UTAH JUNE 15, 1918 All retail merchants will close their places of business: On the first Ave week days at 6 p. m. On Saturdays at 9 p. m. On days preceding holidays at 9 p. m. and will remain closed on all Sundays Sun-days and all legal holidays. Exception 1 Dealers in gasoline and automobile accessories may, without adding additional help, sell those commodities after the closing hours and on Sundays and holidays in strictly emergency cases. These would include sales to physicians, ambulances, fire and health departments depart-ments and to tourists; and calls for help and supplies in event of unexpected unex-pected breakdowns, such help and supplies to be only sufficient to get the autoist home, may be answered. The closing regulations do not apply to the storing of automobiles or to the conduct of repair shops. Exception 2 Cigar and tobacco stands, fresh fruit stands, drug prescription pre-scription departments and dealers In soft drinks, newspapers and periodicals, periodi-cals, candy and ice cream may remain re-main open after hours and on Sundays Sun-days and holidays if they so desire. This department, however, strongly recommends that this work can, to a great extent, be done by women. Provided, however, that where merchandise listed in Exception 2 is handled in the same store or room as other articles, the sale of which is prohibited by this regulation, this department expects the proprietor, on his honor, to observe the non-sale of such prohibited articles. Violations Viola-tions of this request will be followed by a division of the store or room by curtains or doors, so as to shut off sections in which such prohibited articles are kept. Note This department recommends recom-mends 7 p. m. as a more nearly ideal closing hour for Saturdays and days preceding holidays and suggests that wherever practical such an hour should be agreed upon by the merchants mer-chants of distinct communities or competing lines of retail business.
