Show MILFORD VALLEY WILL GROW BEANS R. E. Stuart is a rancher of Ventura Ven-tura county, California. Ventura is the banner bean county of the United States. When Mr. Stewart two years ago purchased .a ' ranch from the Delta Land & Water Company, Com-pany, like any Ventura rancher, his first thought Was, will it grow beans? This year Mr. Stewart planted fifty-one fifty-one acres of beans of the tepary or Mexican variety. They are doing nicely. They have been watered once. They have been cultivated twice. With the exception of a few spots where the pesky chislers, which are full cousins to the California gophers and with well developed appetites, have been busy, the entire field is doing well and should produce pro-duce a very satisfactory crop of the frijoles. If the farmers of this valley val-ley should determine upon the production pro-duction of beans as their major crop this would soon become a very prosperous pros-perous agricultural section. Every bean tarmer in Ventura county has become independent from the products prod-ucts of his bean ranch. They raise twenty to forty sacks to the acre and make good money even at three cents. At the present price of beans the product of fifty-one acres if only an average crop will pay the producer pro-ducer a small fortune. Every person who has tried to raise beans declares de-clares that with good care they will do splendidly in this valley. A few rows of linias even are making a wonderful growth on some ranches.' We believe that many acres of beans will be planted here next year if the seed is available. They require little water and are not difficult to cultivate culti-vate and harvest. |
