Show SUGAR BEETS E. O.'Norr, agriculturalist for the Delta Sugar Beet corporation reports re-ports that by Saturday night there will be 7 5 acres of beets planted here. The acreage is small but is distributed over the valley in such a way as to constitute a very thorough and practical test of the possibilities of the success of t,he business here. Mr. Norr says that no demonstration demonstra-tion is necessary as he knows that the soil is good beet soil and the water is right where it belongs, even ev-en better than if it were on the surface. sur-face. The only possibility of failure fail-ure would be from neglect by the growers. The beets are planted by Sloan, Berkimer, Cook Burns, Baxter and Hardy. Other planting will be made later. These tracts are scattered over ov-er the valley from ten miles south of town to the Hardy place north of town. That there is water In abundance is proved by the 650 gallon stream pumped day after day at the Sloan place, with no lowering of the water level; 500 gallon per minute at the Berkimer; 450 gallons at Cooks and the only limit reached at any of the wells is the limit of the pump outfits. out-fits. A close study of the wells confirms the original opinion that the water is from a vast sub-stream lake which has hut little if any current. At no place in the lower lands, has a failure been made to obtain a large amount of water, and with the proper methods, this water is placed plac-ed upon the surface at a minimum cost. This means a large acreage of beets next year as well as many fields of alfalfa and other crops. Al! of which spells progress and prosperity. |
