Show STRIKERS REJECT ARBITRATION OFFER situation is called gravest crisis in history of british empire. All Efforts of Transport Workers Federation to Find Bridge to Enable Renewal of Negotiations for Settlement Have Failed. London. The railroad strike situation situa-tion shows no improvement; in fact ii has become the gravest in the history of any labor crisis of the British empire em-pire in the present generation. All efforts of the transport workers' work-ers' federation to find a bridge to enable en-able a renewal of negotiations between the government and the national union of railwaymen failed. The government's approval for a seven days' truce for the railroad men to return to work and permit resumption resump-tion of negotiations on the disputed points', coupled with the offer by the government to resort to arbitration in the event of failure to reach an agreement, agree-ment, has been rejected by the railway rail-way men's union. The whole possibility of mediation for the moment seems to have completely com-pletely collapsed. An appeal has been made by the government gov-ernment for a citizen army to protect peaceable citizens and to aid in the work o maintaining the supply of food. The executive body of the. national union of railway men has disbanded for the purpose of engaging in campaign cam-paign meetings throughout the coun try. A congress embracing all the trade unions of the United Kingdom has been called for the purpose of discussing dis-cussing the situation. |
