Show Ephraim Will Be Host Saturday To Civic Clubs Group The next meeting of the Associated Asso-ciated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah will be held in Ephraim on Saturday, January 21, as guests of the Ephraim Lions club and officials of-ficials of Snow Junior college, it is announced by President James M. Sargent. The business session, to which all members and the public pub-lic are invited, will convene at 2.30 p.m. With legislative, road and advertising ad-vertising problems scheduled as the principal items of business, the matter of changing the method of i dividing the automlobile license J plate money between cities and j counties will be of particular interest inter-est to all residents of the 15 counties coun-ties the association represents. At present the fund is divided on a basis of 30 per cent of the $800,000 total to cities and 70 per cent to counties, but it has been propposed by the Municipal League of Utah to change this to a 50-50 division. Opposition to this plan was immediately raised by association asso-ciation officers because it would reduce the amount now going to both cities and counties in southern south-ern Utah by more than $36,000; I with thickly populated regions of i the state materially benefited by this change. Indications are that still another solution will be offered, probably that the cities and counties will both participate on a basis of 45 per cent for population, 45 per cent road mileage and 10 per cent for area. This plan will be analyzed previous to the Ephraim meeting and recommendations made at that time. Recently all civic clubs, directors and county commissioners were requested, by the association off i- , cers to submit their preference of road projects for 1939 so that they might be coordinated into one program pro-gram for the sponsorship of the entire group. If these plans are i completed, they will be discussed at the next meeting. The advertising adver-tising program will also be give) , attention at that time. M |
