Show Celebration of 4th Is a Big Success "One of the best Independence Day celebrations in the history of Milford," was the unanimous decision de-cision of local people regarding the Frontier Days 4th of July, staged last Saturday in Milford, with only a few local people leaving for the mountains or else, where. Though planned principally for the youngsters of the community and they had a truly glorious t i m e the program of . events throughout the day was found interesting and enjoyable b y y.oung and old alike. What makes it even more remarkable is the fact that the entire day's celebration celebra-tion was largely the work of one man, G. S. Frazier, local railroad man. He had the assistance of others in various activities, but the planning of the celebration, preparation of publicity, and the "push" plenty of which it takes to make a celebration of this kind a success can be credited to this rnan. One of the best parades ever seen in Milford took place shortly after 10 o'clock Saturday morning (minus everything automotive except ex-cept the fire truck) followed by a short but interesting outdoor program pro-gram at the bank intersection, the program being brought to a climactic finish with a colorful fake holdup of the Milford State bank. Principal E. R. Moody of the Milford high school delivered the oration, which was given added add-ed hearers by means of a public address system. A feature of the parade and program was the appearance and performance of an impromptu band which was recruited largely through the efforts of J. Al Kirk in the absence of the high school band, which was not availabJe. Races and other children's sports took up the time between the parade and horse races at the fair grounds, and those activities registered big with the youngsters, young-sters, from wee tots to those in their 'teens, since there were prizes for everyone as wiell as treats in the form of free candy, popcorn and lemonade. A children's dance, matinee picture pic-ture show and swimming privileges privi-leges at the municipal pool were other features of the day which were free to all children under 16 years of age. A hearty vote of thanks is due Mr. Frazier and his co-workers, also the business men, most of whom donated generously of money and services. |
