Show SITUATION I t s"1 'the ... Zositiqces Unionitockljards Los Angeles Union Stock Yards. December 6 Almost every record was broken at the Great Western Livestock show, held November 2S 1 to December 3 at the Los Angeles Unit n Siock yards. A new l'aci-! l'aci-! fie co:vst record was scored when the grand champion steer, an Aberdeen-Angus, bred and fitted by Otto V. Battles, Yakima, Washington. Wash-ington. v;s sold at $3.10 a pound to the Cornelius Packing company. The steer realized a total of $"411.00. A total of nearly 500 registered Herefords were sold, going- out mulnly to California cattlemen to serve as improvers cf quality beef production in this state. The top at $3550 for a Hereford bull was highest ever jpaid at a Great Western auction; and a pen of five Hereford bulls realized nearly $10,000. On the ; whole, prices were somewhat conservative con-servative yet represented profitable profit-able returns to breeders. Junior di-; di-; 1isicn fat stock brought very satisfactory prices as a result of generous cooperation from ptiek- ers, retailers and public eating i places. The livestock miarket continues to list liberal receipts of cattle cat-tle and hogs. Cattle receipts at Los Angeles Union Stock yards are running around 9500 to 10,000 I weekly, showing substantial gains ovor a year ago; and last week's receipts at 12 major markets at 235,000 showed a gain of nearly 1 25 over a year ago. Continued hee vy receipts of cattle and sheep have caused the 0 P A to lower point values and enable consumers j to buy more meat. This should tend to improve demand at the 1 mrkets.
