Show Car's Popularity ' Proved By Sales l o' tiac Mot ;r Division of Gen-eiil Gen-eiil Motors company has just re-i re-i ntly fini-hed the best calendar v. ar in i'.s history, according to 11. J. Klinglcr, gi neral manager. I.'iliveiiis of new Pontiac cars set an all-time high with m 1 - than ."O.fiO'l fcr the year, Klingler i ints out, to which are added the -ale if ir.oi than 450,000 used cars. Employment increased.. Nura'ir of hours worked increased for the second straight year, while payrolls rose to almost $20,000.- 000 during 1940. "The result of the year just dosed are very significant," said Hmglcr. Not only do these record salts reflect the improvements made in our products, but they arc definite tell-tale evidence of the general expansion in business now in progress. "To make it possible to build and sell so many Pontiac cars several sev-eral important plant and equip-nunt equip-nunt changes had to be made. Between Be-tween the mciit-1 runs last summer sum-mer we added two cupolas to our foundry and increased its capacity ca-pacity by 50 per cent. Extensive additions were made to our conveyor con-veyor system and a complete new battery of powerful and modern presses were installed in the sheet metal plant to stamp out rear fenders. We were fortunate in gifting this press equipment when we did because, with the machine tcol industry tied up on the defense de-fense program, it would be impossible impos-sible for us to get that equipment agsin for a long time to come. "As to 1941, I feel certain that Pontiac will exceed the record-breaking record-breaking acomplishments of 1940. Our product has been improved still further, both mechanically and in appearance. Our plant eouipment ami manufacturing facilities fa-cilities are the best in our history and we are in the strongest position posi-tion we have ever been in with regard to our dealer organization. "In addition to these favorable elirrerts which pertain to Pontiac. it is quite evident that the basic elements which govern all busi- n:-ss point upward. The great in-i in-i crease in all branches of manufac-! manufac-! turing now taking place, due to i the defense program, is adding millions of dollars to our national I payroll and is bound to be reflect- ed favorably in motor car buying. ! And to top off all that is the fact ' that the increased scale of busi- 1 r.ess on every hand is putting the , public in a buying mood." i . |
