Show Milford CCC Notes (By Alan L. Ash) Due to a recent act of congTess, commanding officers in the Civi-! lian Conservation corps are no j longer to be members of the Unit-1 ed States army reserves. Rupert i Ingram, former commanding offi-i cer, took over the duties of company com-pany commander as a civilian in stead of as an officer the first of the month. Many of the boys in camp took advantage of the labor day holiday and obtained leave for taking trips to Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, Nevada. The crew of men under Foreman Harry C. Holmes of the Beaver spike camp have completed the Birch creek range drift fence extending ex-tending from the forest southeast of Beaver to the public domain boundary. Superintendent Tervort reports that a group of men will be put to work gathering seed for the range I revegetation project that is to start later en this winter. Their first task will be to gather approximately ap-proximately five thousand pounds ! of Atroplex seed. Rainfall during the past week has filled a number of the reservoirs reser-voirs in this area, making more water available on the surrounding range land. The work of clearing the Rock corral roadway has started and as I soon as the path is cleared of brush and debris the tractors and graders will be put to work making the roadbed. (Crowded out last week) 1 All of the four barracks buildings build-ings have been completely renovated renovat-ed and newly painted and new matting Has also been placed in the aisles. The new color scheme is cream for walls and ceiling, with a four-foot border of oak brown at the base. A dance was held in the camp recreation hall last Friday night and a good time was had by all present in spite of the small attendance. at-tendance. A new schedule is now in effect whereby the men are able to sleep an hour later each morning. During Dur-ing the long days of the summer the men were getting up at 5:30 each morning and going to work at 7:00, returning at 3:00 that evening. eve-ning. Now they get up at 6:30, go to work at 8:00 and return at 4:00. The division of grazing now has all of the new equipment that comes under the new program, making a total of 17 trucks and two tractors. This new equipment equip-ment will increase the efficiency of the CCC work by eliminating delays caused by faulty equipment. fur |
