Show ; , 4 Ruminatin' Roundabout T In which Ruminator proposes to dream a lot, mink as little as necessary, scatter a few bouquets bou-quets while their objectives are still above the sod to enjoy them, and fire a hot-shot now and then while said Ruminator Ruminat-or can enjoy seeing the sparks fly. .Milford again has something to be decidedly proud of in an athletic ath-letic way Referring, of course, to Mil-ford Mil-ford high school's six-man football team, which has won all but one of the league contests con-tests thus far played. But the community has something some-thing more than the team to be proud of, and that is Coach Floyd Kotter, who seems to be able to acoomplish (wonders in any athletic ath-letic activity to which he devotes himself. (Perhaps it is that very devotion so complete yet lacking in showmanship which is the secret se-cret of his success. But there are two things in connection con-nection with this splendid work of coach and boys which do not sit well with Ruminator. First, is the small number of citizens of the community who turn out for these games, everyone every-one of which has been a humdinger, hum-dinger, crowded with thrilling demonstrations of speed, courage, headwork and' superb training play after play as thrilling as you'll find on any football field! The local Lions club voted unanimously unani-mously to support the school in its inauguration of six-man football; yet, except for teacher-Lions, there have not been more than three or four Lions present for any of the games! This, most decidedly, is not as it should be! Secondly, Milford is supposed to have a high school .band , and also a drum and bugle corps; yet, except ex-cept for the first of the three games played en the local field (with beautiful weather for every game) there has been no evidence whatever- of Milford having a musical mu-sical organization of anf kind! Milford people have become pretty well used to a minimum of public appearances of the Milford high school band for which hundreds hun-dreds of collars have been raised by Band Mothers and others, but they are not proud of nor satisfied with tthis state of affair by any means! Hardly a weekly jjaper comes to our exchnge desk but' tells of this and that public appearance of their high school band or other musical mu-sical group. Also, Milford people visiting other towns repeatedly return home with glowing reports of performances ,by the musical groups- of those other towns on every possible occasion important or otherwise. Ivuminat'or may be wrong in his ideas, but it's our honest opinion that, with a band man employed for the local school on a year-round' year-round' basis, as is the case in Milford, Mil-ford, the community has a right to a bigger showing than is being made here! What incentive, if you please, is there for community cooperation co-operation under the present circumstances? cir-cumstances? Or for the youngsters young-sters to do their best when band spirit i at a high ebb only three or four weeks Cut' of the entire year ? There is one remaining home game to be played on the football schedule tffiit of Friday, November Novem-ber 3 ifwhen the Parowan team comes liere) and we are going to hope for an about-face for that occasion. How aiiout it, folks? m |
