Milford's annual gravel day was to be March 19. It was sponsored by the Milford Volunteer Fire de- : partment, Lions club, Chamber of Commerce and the Business Men's association. Stores were to he I closed and refreshments served to all the workers. I Members ,of the S. B. A. had j enjoyed themselves at a danc-i danc-i ing party. Music was furnished ! by the S. B. A. orchestra, who ! were Al Kirk, Ruth Elmer, Gay ; Martin and Macel Rogers. Eight j new members had been initiated j into the order as follows: Mr. and , Mrs. Ross Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Myron 1 Lewis, Mrs. William McGhie and Mrs. J. Weston. Milford had a new orchestra composed of high school pupils ' and not one over 18 years of age. They were Macel Rogers, Ruth Elmer, Harold Bailey, George Frazier, George Thompson and Jack Turley. Members of the M. G. club had been entertained at the home of Mrs. Leonard Bowen at a St. Patrick's Pat-rick's party. Those present were Mrs. Rolf Bellingmo, Mrs. M. P. Lewis, Mrs. D. E. Kirk, Mrs. Bert Hoagland, Mrs. Charles Miller, Mrs. Jack Weston, Mrs. Spencer Schow, Mrs. G. Cuddy, Mrs. A. E. Smith, Mrs. Joe Murdock, Mrs. Sheen and Miss Drucilla Tanner. Mrs. J. M. Williams was hostess to the Saturday Bridge club. Those present were Mrs. P. J. Evans, Mrs. W. H. Elmer, Mrs. C. C. Sloan, Mrs. G. E. Harris, Mrs. W. E. Femley, Mrs. J. R. Murdock, Mur-dock, Mrs. J. B. Theissen and Mrs. C. E. Moore. Mrs. H. P. Ryan had been hostess host-ess at a dinner party in honor of j Mr. Ryan's birthday. Cards were enjoyed during the evening. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Rue Nielsen, Mr. and Mrs. Charles New-hart, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Kes-ler, Kes-ler, Mr. and Mrs. George Femley, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Grimshaw, Mr. and Mrs. Art Ryan and Harold Ryan, guest of honor. j Mrs. Dorothy Bailey was a delightful de-lightful hostess to the G. C. C. club girls. Those present were Katherine McKeon, Betty Murdock, Mur-dock, Fern Jeryiings, Dorothy Levi, Reba Korns and Dorothy Bailey. Items from South Milford The Social Hour club had met at the home of Mrs. C. G. Haskell. Those present were Mesdames Jake Weber, Charles Baxter, W. C. Cates, Kent Smith, Bert Ryssman, Abe Beslington, Horace Elmer and Miss Margaret Cates. The Weber brothers had sunk a new well for Charles Baxter on his 80 acres north of the Chicken ranch. Abe Heslington had been putting put-ting up a fence on his 40 acres east of Kent Smith's place. William A. Joseph of Miners-ville Miners-ville had purchased 40 acres in the pumping district, southeast of the Roper place. Jim Williams of Minersville had purchased the west 80 acres of the Berkheimer tract. He intended" to build a home and plant alfalfa. Frank Williams had purchased 80 acres east of his brother Jim's place. He intended building a home and completing the planting of his farm. Pete Weidner had been working his 40 acres southwest of the Ryssman place. W. C. Cates had had a force of men working on section 31, making mak-ing and cleaning ditches so he could irrigate. Ren Easton had been doing some farm work for O. F. Hubbell on the west side. |
