Show Lake Mead Water At Highest Point Water in Lake Mead behind Roulder dam stood Monday at an elevation of 1210 feet, just 2.4 feet below the crest of the steel spillway gates, but with the flow of the Colorado river dropping steadily, it is believed the spillways spill-ways at the dam will not be tested test-ed until early in August, bureau of reclamation officials deciarecj. The inflow of water at Bright Angel checking station in Grand canyon Monday showed 27,300 cubic fett per second, while the bureau of reclamation is releasing releas-ing only 15,000 cubic feet per second. sec-ond. On this basis the lake is showing a rise in elevation of about .15 of a foot per day. It is the plan of government officials of-ficials to test the spillways at the dam for the first time in the history his-tory of the project when the water level rises to the crest of the spillway gates. If it is found, however, that the inflow from the river drops below the necessary release through the project, then the gates will be lowered to make the first test. The lake has reached its greatest great-est size in its six-year history, with a storage at present of 30,-770,000 30,-770,000 acre feet, a surface of 156,300 acres, a depth of 578 feet and a length of 120 miles. There still is a large amount of storage in the lake basin, reclamation recla-mation officials report. In case of a heavy storm in Wyoming, the reclamation officials at Boulder Bould-er would have a report almost a week before the arrival of the water in the lake. Meantime, they could increase the release of water throught the project and make room for the increased flow. It is planned to announce the dr.te for testing the spillway prior to the overflow into the tunnels, so visitors may witness the spectacle, spec-tacle, it was announced. |
