Show MAJOR SHANNON IS BACK IN STATES Major Rollin R. Shannon, Medical Med-ical Corps, U. S. Army, former Milford physician and surgeon, recently re-cently arrived in California from Okinawa. He entered the army in August, 1942, and was stationed at Camp Roberts, Calif., and later at Camp Ellis, 111, and Camp Cooke, Calif., where he was assigned to the 88th Field Hospital. In January, 1945, this unit went to Hawaii, where Major Shannon served as surgeon in neurosurgery at Tripler General Hospital, Oahu. Then, attached and assigned to the Tenth Army, the 88th Field Hospital landed on Okinawa, where Major Shannon, then captain, served throughout the campaign as a member of a combat surgical team of this unit, which received a commendation for meritorious service. At that time he was promoted pro-moted to chief of surgery of the 88th field hospital. In addition to caring for American Amer-ican casualties, this hospital unit was the only unit in the Ryukyus assigned to the care of wounded Japanese prisoners. Major Shannon, who expects to be discharge in April, is now enjoy ing a short leave resting with hi) family. |
