Show JI BASE BALL The University nine again met and defeated the L. L D. D S. S College base ball team on the campus last Wednesday The crowd was small only about two hundred people being there And there was a great deal less enthusiasm than people too Some of our pretty girls were there with a huge red and white flag and smiling faces to encourage our boys and certainly it had its effect for many was the eye that was as turned that way as our players took up the bat and andas as the ball went sailing through the air the cheers of the girls had their effect in causing the fielders on the opposing side to muff The following were the positions of i the playes u. u OF U. J i the University left the bat without tally tally- ing Then Margetts hit the sphere for a two bagger and gave Luff a chance to touch the home plate In the second our boys found Ca Castleton's Castleton's Castle Castle- 1 tons ton's balls a perfect snap and sent them in all directions thu thus s scoring four runs Then in the third the College boys evened up the score by making three 1 runs From there on the playing was somewhat somewhat somewhat some some- what loose The L. L D. D S. S men were changed about in all directions but the changing did n no good Pitching was not good on either side while the field work was variable Garf Gad succeeded in being right there when some difficult balls came by but failed to get hold of some easier ones Some of the throws he made from the field to home were enough to stop ones one's breath while his batting was a feature of the game In Inthe Inthe Inthe the seventh and eighth innings he succeeded succeeded succeeded suc suc- in putting three aggers to his credit Reads Read's playing was fine the ball never finding any butter on his fin fin- gers Creditable work was done by every man on the team though the average average average aver aver- age playing would undoubtedly have been better if the game had been more even It was in the eighth that our boys simply lost their heads but the L. L D. D S. S only succeeded in adding three runs to their score When the ninth inning was ended the score stood 23 to 14 in our favor This ends our playing with the L. L DS The arrangements were that the one school out of the three that should win two games out of three from the two other schools should be the winner of the series We have won two from the L. L D. D S. S and lost one to the High School so that we have either one or two more games to play with the latter all depends on the outcome of the next game A It was a truthful poet indeed who wrote Lifes Life's nothing but a stormy sea N Now ow comes the sweet sweet girl graduate 1 J j Teachers remember Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy Miss Kate Thomas a former member of the CHRONICLE staff leaves eaves today for fora a two years visit to England Why in the name nam of common sense didn't Schley come to the University 1 instead of going to the High School Mr is going to spend the summer in writing new speeches and in devising new ways cf springing up suddenly suddenly suddenly sud sud- denly out of the floor Mrs Grundland is going to make sandwiches all summer so as to have a good stock when school opens in the fall w. w It seems a disgrace that the highest institution ution of learning in the state should not have had a holiday to see one of the greatest heros of the time 1 Since the paper has gone to press we have received notice that the Dramatic Club have cancelled their engagement to play I A A.
