Show T may nay not be entirely inopportune to mention at this stage a feature of Commencement nt Day that we think has in inthe inthe inthe the past been neglected or badly man man- aged It is the giving of flowers to the graduates The question has been raised by some whether it is really necessary or even beneficial that any flowers be present presented pre pre- sent d on that occasion or not but until the present time the affirmative view seems to be strongly held We do not desire to bring up any objections to the custom apparently so firmly established in our schools but we do urge that more mors care be taken of the flowers after they have served their purpose of stage de de- All who were present at last lastA A Commencement Exercises no doubt remember remember re re remember member the confusion that prevailed at the r r close of the program While an attempt was being made to distribute the bouquets bouquets bouquets bou bou- to their various owners the sta stage e ewas was thronged by friends eager to congratulate congratulate congratulate the graduates until it was well nigh impossible to stir The natural result was that some did not receive their presents at all while many found the flowers in a mutilated condition Those who bestow such gifts upon the graduates as true tokens of appreciation or in other words as true gifts regret such misfortunes very much The method of bringing the flowers in before the exercises have closed is certainly much better than the one spoken of but has its demerits because it takes up much time with unimportant busi busi- ness Better still possibly is to let the flowers remain in place until the excitement excitement excitement excite excite- ment is over and the stage is clear We Wedo Wedo Wedo do not wish to dictate to those having the matter in charge but to give our views as suggestions by which more sa satisfactory satisfactory sat sat- t- t results may be obtained |
