Show SPOTLIGHTING Pertinent Comment About Utah from the State Department of Publicity and Industrial Development. De-velopment. P.UNDY URGES CENTENNIAL COIN I Utah's congressional delegation ; at Washington is asking for the! minting of a silver dollar 1947 cen-; tennial coin, the idea of which was j presented to them recently by Ora Bundy, chairman of the Utah state j department of publicity and in-1 dustrial development. Mr. Bundy indicated that Senator Abe Mur-j dock and Congressman J. W. Rob- inson were in hearty accord with the movement and have introduced resolutions before congressional! vurrency and banking committees calling for the minting of the coin. GUEST PREPARATIONS j ARE UNDER WAY i With the latest national surveys indicating that next year's tourist migration will he westward in a volume never previously exper-j ienced, and that 87 per cent will come by auto, a movevent is now, under way to make a good impression impres-sion on Utah's 19-16 visitors. The state agricultural vocational department under Director Mark Nichols is sponsoring "Community Improvement Clubs" in Utah's 275 covmunitios of a population from! 100 to -S00. No traveler who has toured eastern states can forget j the nicely painted, orderly ar-, ranged and well-fenced homesteads -with trim-looking barnyards and all farm machinery under sheds. In 19-16 Utah's communities will cither make a lasting impression, for good, or a distasteful impression impres-sion of littered unkempt farm-! yards, unpainted houses, barns and fences, unless action is taken at or.ee. Losintr no time, the aericul- ture department's program fori community beautification is .already .al-ready under way. With the proper, enthusiasm aroused, and cooperation coopera-tion secured of those having pride in the appearance of their own communities, everything should be in "apple pie order" when the great tourist migration starts through Utah next May. Ralph Parlette once said: "I judge a community by four things: The railroad station, which gives evidence of what the j railroad thinks about the community; com-munity; the postoffice, a criterion criter-ion of what Uncle Sam thinks of the community, and the homes tho appearance of the homes indicates what the people think of themselves." TRANSPORTATION' COMPETITION Railroads, bus lines, airlines and steamship companies are going "hog wild' over tourist possibilities possibili-ties next year. The rails are ordering or-dering new club streamliners in bright colors drawn by doisel power pow-er . The trains will have double bedrooms containing individual toilets and showers. Glass penthouse pent-house observation "casino" cars with smorgasbord buffets will accommodate ac-commodate 50 passengers. Bus lines will introduce express liner? and compartment supercoaches seating 51 persons, and carrying full toilet facilities, also a buffet and lounge. Air conditioning will be general and buses will ride easier and travel faster. |
