Show Man Still Is Rated As "Forest Enemy No. One" Man still rauks as "Forest Enemy No. 1." More than half the fires in national forests this year, reports the Forest Service, were caused by man. The number of these fires was 5,777, as compared to last year, and to cn annual average of 4,0'J1 over the 1931-34 period. These fires were started by brush burners, by residents on land newly acquired by the forest service many of whom still believe that an annual "burning-over" is good for the woods nnd by campers, hunters, rec-rentionists, rec-rentionists, and tourists who have made greater use of Datlonal forest facilities this year than ever before. |
