Show J JI I jS S the University has steadily increased increased increased in- in in in- I e IS creased both in numbers courses and requirements it has gradually outgrown its old shell and now finds itself sadly crowded and in pressing need of more room Dr Kingsbury in his re report report report re- re port to the regents pointed out the immediate necessity for two more buildings build build- ings one ings-one one a gymnasium the other for machine shops In considering the erection of these the University authorities have become convinced that the new site upon the bench is the only proper place to build these new structures It is only a qU question question ques ques- stion s- s tion of time when in order to keep the grounds we will have to begin work upon upon upon up up- on them To erect the new buildings upon the present University site would certainly be a losing investment The two buildings buildings buildings build build- ings needed are of such a nature that they cannot be cheaply built for temporary tern tem use They need to b be firmly built on strong foundations Thus they must necessarily be costly although they would have little value when the time comes cones to dispose of our present location Their erection then would add nothing to the commercial value of the University University University sity block It is therefore most advisable that the new buildings be made permanent upon the east bench Nor is the question question question ques ques- tion one of raising funds for the State University lands offer ample security for loans If the project is carried out four buildings will be begun this year Others will be put up as occasion demands The committee of Regents who have this matter under advisement will make a special report of their investigations to the Legislature and the governor Already the affair has been talked over unofficially with the governor and his hearty operation co-operation with the President and the Regents is assured We earnestly hope that the Legislature will carefully and favorably consider our needs and take active steps toward soon transferring the University to the new site This is a move that has been the dream and ambition of the students as aswell aswell aswell well as the faculty for years It is a atheme atheme atheme theme upon whose glowing possibilities former CHRONICLE editors have waxed eloquent with just cause Its fulfillment will fill these old halls with rejoicing The University is fast increasing and giving out out a bright and steady light Let us not be forced to longer hide this light under a basket within the crowded quarters that we now occupy but let our light be placed where it may shine abroad upon the state By transportation the growth of the University will ill not be checked but hut will rather receive new strength from the new soil and flourish The attention of the whole state will be drawn anew to its crowning educational institution and new pride and interest will be taken in it by the people The st students stu students stu- stu dents themselves will enter their new home with greater love and honor for their Alma Mater and with greater jealousy will guard her fair home ne from every taint of dishonor |
