Show iMilford Team Is J Winner, 28 to 26, : Over Monroe Higti i Coach Floyd Kotter and the Mil-,lhigh Mil-,lhigh school basketeers entered the I winning column in impressive man-l man-l ner Monday night when they tool the Monroe high school team intc camp by a score of 28-26 after ont of the most exciting contests evei staged in Milford's inadequate gymnasium, which is soon to be succeeded by the finest building ir the southern part of the state. The victcry for the local boys becomes be-comes more impressive when it is taken into consideration that three of the Monroe players (th3 two Magleby boys and Hunt) were regular members cf the Monroe team which went upstate last year as regional champions, while Larson, Lar-son, another player in Monday night's game, was on the reserve list at the state tournament! The Milford players had a hard time getting started, is seemed, especially in getting the ball through the hoop. They had possession pos-session of the ball a-plenty but bombarded the ring or backboard so hard that they usually lost the ball temporarily and had to do a new but splendid- job of rustling all over again. The score stood 8-0 in favor of the visitors with the second quarter well underway but the half ended with Monroe's margin mar-gin cut down to two points, the score being 11-9. The Monroe team scored two field goals immediately after the second half began; but at that point, with Gillins, shy but capable JVIilford forward, sparking the lc-cal lc-cal fellows, they went on a rampage ram-page that kept the visitors dizzy and all the fans in a frenzy. The Milford players had it their own way the remainder of that quarter, which teminat-ed with the ifcore 20-15 in favor of Milfcrd. The ho me team maintained a nar-rowing nar-rowing lead until final quarter was pretty well over but Monroe finally fin-ally tied the score and things looked look-ed precarious until Bud James, with a brilliant side shot, brought his team two points in the lead only seconds before the game ended. end-ed. A hint of what might be coming-Monday coming-Monday night was provided by the one-point loss Frielay evening of a game with the strong Parowan high school team, who, only a day or two later, beat Beaver bj a three-pcint margin! This game, too, was a real thriller, with the score tied until the last few minutes min-utes of the game, when Parowan was awarded a free throw which was converted without any difficulty. diffi-culty. There were g-ood turnouts of local people at both of these games and this response to the splendid work of Coach Kotter and his boys is much appreciated by the school. If the team is to do its best, however, how-ever, and bring about a restoration restora-tion of Milford's old prowess on the waxed court, it is going to take constant and increasing sup-( sup-( Continued on last page) Milford Wins Game (Continued from first page) port on the part of the townspeople. towns-people.
