Show PLANES BOMB SUNDAY, RETURN RE-TURN DAY BEFORE In order to bomb Paramushiro on a Monday morning from a base in the Aleutians, the National Geographic Soriety says, American Ameri-can planes had to take off early Sunday morning, say at 5 o'clock. Less than an hour later they had to cross the International Date Line. When it is Sunday east of this line it is Monday west of it. If the planes reached the Date Line at 5:40 a.m. Sunday they were on the other side of it at 5:41 a.m, Monday. Approximately five hours after their Sunday morning takeoff but in the early hours of Monday morning, Japanese time the bombers bom-bers were raining bombs down on their targets. With the job completed com-pleted the planes turned back and approached the Date Line again about 3 p.m. Monday, and promptly prompt-ly dodged back into Sunday. Landing at their base well before be-fore evening Sunday, the bomber crews had to wait six or more hours for the "beginning of Monday, Mon-day, the day the bombing was carried car-ried out! V |
