Show DOCTOR WARNS AGAINST SERUM With many deaths resulting from spinal meningitis in southern Idaho and with the disease creeping southward south-ward down past Salt Lake as far as Lehi, there seems to be some worry locally that the epidemic may strike in Beaver county. Many schools to the north have ben closed, or are open op-en with but partial attendance. In connection with this disease, it is well to remember that, according to the state health commission, there is no preventative serum for protection, protec-tion, although innoculation may over-come over-come the deadly effects. The following article is taken from the Salt Lake Tribune: "Warning to the public not to be misled by the claims of any person to have a serum which will immunize one against spinal meningitis, was issued Saturday by Dr. T. B. Beatty, state health commissioner. There is no serum by. which one may be inoculated inoc-ulated against contracting this disease, dis-ease, the health commissioner declared, declar-ed, although there is a serum which is quite effective in overcoming the deadly effects of the disease if used in the first few hours of the disease. "While a serium has been put out under the claim that it will prevent a person from taking the disease, Dr. Beatty declared this serum is not out by the authority of the health authorities au-thorities and has not their approval, as it has not been proved effective." |
