Show MOKI BREAD MADE OF MESQUITE 70 "YEARS OLD Mrs. Cassie Riding loaned me a very unique relic: 5 Her grandfather, John Steele, the wee, pepper, fighting Irishman, was called on a mission to the Moki Indians In-dians in company with Jacob Hamb-lin Hamb-lin in 1862. He stayed about two year3 and when he came back brought a piece of the Moki bread with him as a memento of his labors. This piece of bread has been in the Steele family ever since, and is now about seventy years old quite an odd thing. It is about the size of a plump biscuit, bis-cuit, and even now retains a sweet smell, rather faint. The texture of the food shows it to be of a coarse nature, with large shiny flakes, interspersed, inter-spersed, which I take to be the hulls of the grain, whatever that grain may be.
