Show Medieval Treasures In Columbia university Is a prayer book in Benevenutian script, a rare medieval handwriting developed 1,400 years ago in the monastery of Monte Cassino in the hills of southern Italy. The book is C lnche9 by 3'i and is written on vellum. It Is a prayer book of the Order of St. Benedict, from the archdiocese of Naples. Dr. Hellmut Lehmann-Ilaupt, curator of the rare hooks department of the university library, said that few rxnniples of the script' are In existence. He believes the most beautiful example In this country Is in the Morgan library. |
